As part of a partnership between the Conwell-Egan Catholic High School and The Peace Center, sophomores took part in a week-long, classroom-based emotional and mental support program.

The T.H.R.I.V.E. program is an acronym for trust, heal, respect, inquire, value, and empathize. It is a joint program of the Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health and the Langhorne Borough-based The Peace Center.

Educators from The Peace Center divided all Conwell-Egan Catholic High School sophomores into small groups for their Sophomore Seminar classes and encouraged them to share their experiences, teaching them to recognize prejudice, and improve relationships with peers while shining a focus on mental and emotional health, organizers said.

The small group settings were designed for activities, discussions, and chances to share their stories. The program was designed to create a stronger school community.

The T.H.R.I.V.E. program taught students at the Bristol Township regional catholic high school to identify and manage strong emotions, maintain healthy relationships, gender harassment, diversity appreciation, and use respectful dialogue and communication skills.

“Diversity education and emotional support programs help to create a safe and accepting environment for our students,” said Conwell-Egan Catholic High School Principal Matthew Fischer. “We are grateful for the opportunity to help our students learn to express themselves in a productive way, discuss practices for good decision making, and allow their voices be heard. We are also incredibly grateful to the Peace Center and the Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health for allowing us to take advantage of such an impactful, important program.”

“This is yet another outstanding program offered to our students that reinforces our mission-centered education that welcomes all faiths and cultures,” said Conwell-Egan Catholic High School President Tom Lynch. “We are proud to continue to offer our students opportunities to build the skills they need to be compassionate citizens of the world at CEC and beyond.”
