The lake at Falls Township Community Park was searched Monday evening and Tuesday morning after an empty canoe was located.

Firefighters along with police searched the 67-acre lake after reports that two people – possibly a couple – were seen in the canoe and that they may have fallen in the water.

Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said no one was found, but the canoe did have fishing gear, a backpack, and beer.

There was talk of bringing in divers and sonar from outside the township, but the problem was the lake is large and there was no confirmation at the time that anyone ended up in the water, Dippolito said.

After the search wrapped up Monday night, Dippolito returned to the park Tuesday morning and checked the banks of the lake.

Police, according to the fire marshal, were eventually able to talk to the original 9-1-1 caller who stated that someone was in the water and were told the person swam to shore and was fine.
