Levittown-area ambulance squads assisted when the call for a mass causality incident in Lower Southampton crackled across the scanner Sunday afternoon.
At the Dolphin Swim Club on Bristol Road in Lower Southampton, a large tree was struck by lightning and limbs crashed down on a tent with people under it in a picnic grove around 4:45 p.m.

Medics from the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad were first to respond along with police and firefighters. After arriving, additional ambulances were called to transport the nine patients, including children, to St. Mary Medical Center’s trauma center in Middletown.
According to the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad, the injuries to the nine patients mainly involved the head, neck, and back.
The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad sent ambulances and the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad relocated to cover their response area while crews were tied up.
