Just like William Penn, many of the 50 people who became American citizens at Pennsbury Manor Thursday morning came from a faraway land.

The 50 new citizens hailed from more than 20 counties all over the globe. They took the oath of citizenship from Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Linda K. Caracappa in a tree-covered grove near the Delaware River at the Falls Township historic site.

The yearly naturalization ceremony at Pennsbury Manor celebrates Penn’s drive to bring a diverse group of people from Europe to Pennsylvania. The naturalization process features hallmarks of Penn’s belief system that was the bedrock of modern America.

After being sworn in as new citizens, the League of Women Voters of Bucks County had a table set up to allow them to register to vote.
