A fireworks display on one of the lakes at the Penn Warner Club malfunctioned on Sunday night.
Falls Township Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said the fireworks were aboard a small barge on a lake on the popular recreational property that is owned by Waste Management when “something went awry.”

There were no injuries, and the fireworks and resulting barge fire did not cause any other blazes, Dippolito said.
Firefighters arrived to find the barge ablaze and fireworks actively exploding about 150 feet off shore. Crews waited as the barge and fireworks burned for about 30 minutes before pumping some water onto the platform, the fire marshal said.
Dippolito said the owner of the barge did have permission from the property owner to set off the fireworks, which were controlled electronically from shore, but the fire marshal’s office had not issued any permits for large displays.

The barge sat overnight on the water to make sure all the flames were out.
Numerous fire companies responded to the Penn Warner Club following the call.
