The former manager for the Burger King in Penndel said the closing of the fast food eatery came as a surprise to staff.
Amanda Schiffiano, who worked for the franchise owner for more than five years, announced to workers on Sunday that the Burger King at the corner of West Lincoln Highway at Noeland Avenue would be closed Monday morning for a kitchen remodel. The next morning, employees arrived at work and were told the location had closed for good.

“I was told to meet at another location and they let me go,” Schiffiano said. “They didn’t have a store to place me in as a store manager.”
Another former employee at the Burger King location said some staff members were relocated to other locations owned by franchisee Family Dining.

Schiffiano said the location was facing issues, but the closure came as a surprise as sales were starting to rise.

LevittownNow.com first reported on Monday that the signs were removed from the Burger King and the windows were boarded up. A sign on the entrance said the location was “closed for maintenance.”
The location, which opened about 40 years ago, had a number of regular customers, who Schiffiano said she appreciated and will miss.
“The most upsetting thing for me is not being able to say goodbye to my regular guests,” she said.
