A longtime Bristol Township police official has called it a career.

After more than 30 years working in local law enforcement, Lt. Terry Hughes left the Bath Road police station for the last on Tuesday evening. Once he walked out, he was greeted by a lineup of fellow officers and his waiting family.
Hughes, a lifelong Bristol Township resident, worked at police departments in Hulmeville, Newtown Township, Northampton, and Middletown before landing his dream job in his hometown in October 1990.
Over his 28-year career in the township, Hughes worked patrol, led the detectives, headed up special investigations, spearheaded the bicycle patrol unit, and organized public outreach most recently.

“I enjoyed my time for 28-and-a-half years, and the time just went by. In my opinion, time goes fast when you do something you enjoy for a career,” he said. “I definitely enjoyed it.”
Hughes said he will be spending more time with his kids, grandkids, and wife.

“No more police car in the driveway. I have to get used to a slower pace,” he said.
Hughes thanked his fellow officers and those who came out to send him off on Tuesday.
