A 26-year-old Bensalem man who was facing serious charges brought in a child sexual assault case has been cleared, his attorney said.
Ryan Platt was charged in December by Middletown police with aggravated indecent assault of a child and indecent assault on a person less than 13 years of age. The charges were forwarded to Doylestown after a preliminary hearing, but they were withdrawn last week.

“It was in the interest of justice to drop charges before any trial takes place,” Bucks County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson James O’Malley said.
Michael Parlow, the attorney who represented Platt, said the charges and allegations caused a strain on the man and he is relieved to have the charges withdrawn.
Platt maintained his innocence throughout and was able to provide evidence and paperwork that he did not know the victim and was not even residing in the area at the time when the alleged incident took place, Parlow said.

At a preliminary hearing, Parlow was able to find major problems in the girl’s testimony.
“I can’t say she wasn’t sexually abused, but Ryan Platt did not do it,” Parlow said.

According to court dockets, Platt was released from custody shortly after he was arraigned in December.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the case, O’Malley said.
Kevin Christopher Ortiz, 22, of Bensalem, remains accused of sexually assaulting the girl when she was a child. He is set to have a trial on charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child in June.
