A driver fled Pennsylvania State Police and kicked off a chase last week, according to court papers.

Last Thursday around 8:25 p.m., a trooper was using radar to monitor the speed of vehicles along westbound I-295 in Lower Makefield, about a mile from the Middletown border, when a Chrysler Town and Country minivan whizzed past at 87 mph in a 55 mph zone. The trooper followed the minivan and noted it reached a speed of 104 mph once the police vehicle’s emergency lights were turned on, court papers stated.

The chase went through Middletown and Bristol Township. The minivan traveled between lanes in heavy traffic in Bensalem and got off at the Street Road ramp, state police said.

Due to traffic, the vehicle came to a full stop and troopers broke out the windows and attempted to arrest the driver, state police said.

The driver ignored the commands by troopers and struck the bumper of an SUV in traffic and fled onto Street Road, state police said.

The minivan ended up traveling from Street Road to Knights Road before crossing into Philadelphia at Academy Road, which is where state police conducted a PITT maneuver that caused the minivan to leave the roadway and go through a wooden fence, troopers said.

State police said they called for the driver to exit the minivan, but he did not comply and forcefully was removed from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Mason Wesley Wilson, 22, of Philadelphia.

Troopers said they found a small bag of marijuana and suspected Wilson may have been intoxicated.

Wilson was charged with fleeing a trooper, aggravated assault, DUI, reckless endangerment, accident involving damaged, and a number of summary offenses. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Mark Douple and sent to county lockup on 10 percent of $250,000.
