The owner of St. Mary Medical Center is restructuring jobs in the billing and technology departments.

Catholic health care delivery system Trinity Healtlh – regional operator of St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown; Saint Francis Healthcare in Wilmington Delaware; Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Delaware County; Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in the city; and Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia – announced job reductions, job changes, and relocations for 1,650 employees earlier this week.

Philly.com reported 189 employees in the Philadelphia region will be asked to relocate or offered new jobs in the company.

Nationwide, the health system is creating three centralized patient billing service centers in Kentwood, Michigan; Farmington Hills, Michigan; and Columbus, Ohio. The centers will consolidate hospital patient billing offices and create efficiencies.

The changes to information technology will take place as the health system moves to one system for all facilities. About 450 technology staffers across the organization will be offered jobs with Leidos, a firm that will support the health system’s technology applications.

“We are committed to supporting our teams and colleagues through the changes, all of which position us for improved patient experiences, an information technology structure that enables us to provide coordinated care to patients across the system and increased efficiency to help make care more affordable,” said Michael Slubowski, president and COO for Trinity Health.
