Angelina’s Bake Shop, which was soft-opened last October, serves sweets, bread, and soup in a sit-down storefront with a classic design motif in Bristol Borough.
“If you go into other bakeries, do you see this?” said Sergio Cargitlado, gesturing towards the chandeliers and matching old-style chairs. “There’s real ambiance.”
Cargitlado is co-owner of the shop at 312 Mill Street alongside his wife, Angelina.
“When I was younger, I helped a baker out and I worked with him at night,” Cargitlado said, asked about the origins of the shop. “I was looking to open up something in Bristol in 2012, but it didn’t happen. Then my wife found a place here, so I decided, ‘why not give it a try?’”
The shop’s menu includes over 200 different items, with choices ranging from brownies to key lime pies. Outside of sweets, Angelina’s offers an assortment of dinner rolls and breads.
Most Angelina’s customers have a sweet tooth: pastries outsell bread.
“The apple strudel and the cheese cake bites are number 1, aside from doughnuts,” Cargitlado observed.
The bakery has marketed itself with the phrase “count the memories, not the calories.”
That doesn’t mean that health is neglected, however.
“Everything is baked fresh here on the premises, we make our rye bread here,” Cargitlado said. “People seem to really fawn over it.”

Alongside their pastries and doughnuts, Angelina’s has offered soups since October, which was not part of the owners’ original plan, but according to Cargitlado is a decision that has led to major success.
“I usually pick the soup of the day, I come in the morning and say, ”okay, we are having the marialmen crab.’ We try a variety of soups and it’s a different soup every day. We sell out quickly.”
Recent featured soups include creamy tomato, Maryland crab, and lobster bisque.
A continual reshuffling of the soup menu fits with the shop’s new but apparently already loyal crowd.
“I’m going to say that 90 percent of the people who come have been regular customers and 10 percent are from out of town and say they are coming back,” said Cargitlado.
In addition to their normal menu, Angelina’s Bake Shop also offers event services including weddings, corporate events, funerals and birthday parties. Recently, the shop held a “Snow Queen’s Sweet Party,” featuring a theme from Disney’s “Frozen” film franchise.
“We plan on doing cupcake cookie decorating parties,” noted Cargitlado.
In the days preceding the Eagles’ two playoff games, the shop offered green cookies shaped in the likeness of Nick Foles. According to Cargitlado, these sold out consistently each time.
Angelina’s Bake Shop is open from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. from Monday through Sundays.
When asked if the couple planned to open more Angelina’s shops, Cargitaldo replied, “We’ll see how it goes. My goal was always to expand.”
