Edgely Fire Company Chief Brian Cirard said three people were outside of the home and police pulled a disoriented person from the kitchen of the burning structure as he arrived.

Three of the four people were transferred from Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital to a burn unit in Philadelphia for further treatment.

The fire was well-involved in the basement and first floor before climbing balloon-style walls of the older home, reaching all the floors, Cirard said.

The home was cluttered on the inside, delaying efforts to put down the fire. In addition, the older construction style also took significant manpower to open up the walls to extinguish the flames, Cirard said.

It took firefighters a little more than an hour to put the flames under control.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the blaze started with a couch in the basement. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There were smoke alarms sounding the home, Dippolito said.

America Hose Hook and Ladder, Falls Township, Levittown No. 1, Levittown No. 2, Morrisville, Third District, and Tullytown fire companies assisted Edgely Fire Company crews at the scene. The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad and Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad transported the four patients.
