Work to repair a collapsing pipe under Haines Road could get underway as soon as this week.

State Rep. Tina Davis’ office said there was a preconstruction meeting last Thursday and work should begin this week. The office said that the work was weather-permitting and the road should be open to traffic within a few weeks.

Haines Road between Route 13 and Junewood Drive has been closed since September 12 when a crew from the Bristol Township Public Works Department discovered the road was subsiding.

To get repair work done, Bristol Township and the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), which owns the pipe that carries the water from Delaware Canal State Park under the roadway.

Bristol Township officials have blamed state officials for the delay and Davis wrote a letter to the DCNR secretary.

“The residents and business owners affected by this situation have been very patient but they have waited long enough and have had their lives and livelihoods negatively impacted long enough. Please do your best to bring this project to completion,” she wrote.
