Close to $4 million in funds generated by Bensalem’s Parx Casino will be doled out to Lower Bucks County municipalities.
Last Friday, the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County’s Board of Directors met at their office in Bristol Borough and approved what projects that will be funded through the program.

The majority of the $3.7 million in grants went toward infrastructure projects and equipment for emergency responders.
“I would like to commend the communities for their thorough selection process of the projects they submitted to the Redevelopment Authority (RDA). I would also like to commend Senator Tomlinson for his vision and leadership when drafting the gaming law which has brought tens of millions of dollars to Bucks County to address gaming’s local impact on our area,” Bucks County Redevelopment Authority Board Chairman Sean Schafer said.
This year marked a change for the program that allowed more area towns apply for grant funding. Previously, municipalities contiguous to Bensalem – Bristol Township, Bucks County, Hulmeville, Lower Southampton, and Middletown – could apply for funding for themselves or even on behalf of projects in other towns. However, a change in the law opened municipalities that are located within the contiguous municipalities to submit grant requests, which allowed Bristol Borough, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, and Penndel to directly apply.

The impact funding from Parx is designed to aid municipalities impacted the most by the casino.
More than $6.7 million in grant requests were received, RDA Executive Director Jeff Darwak said.

Schafer commended the staff for taking time to review each application.
“The Redevelopment Authority looks forward to working with local officials to address the needs of their communities through the Municipal Grant Program. These grants make a big difference in alleviating some of the financial burden for these communities and the taxpayers,” Darwak said.
Since the program started in 2008, $40 million has been awarded to municipalities.
