Middletown Township has begun the process of selecting a planner to revamp its Comprehensive Plan.

Back in August, the township was awarded a $67,000 grant that will take much of the cost of the labor-intensive plan revamp off its plate. The funds were awarded by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) and will leave the township with a $1o,000 bill.

According to Board of Supervisors Chairperson Amy Strouse, the comprehensive plan is a document that outlines an overall strategy for the township in many different areas, like economic development, community growth, and future residential and commercial development. It doesn’t limit the township to anything but provides a basic outline to help keep the township in check.

The latest comprehensive plan for the township dates back to the 1990s.

Part of the official requirements for the grant is that the planner must be selected through a competitive bidding process. The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors approval for advertisement will help start that process and also leave them time to assess responses before awarding a planner the job in January.

The money awarded to Middletown by the DVRPC was part of $1.8 million provided for 23 projects in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Chalfont Borough was the only other Bucks County town to be awarded.
