New construction at the Keystone Industrial Port Complex in Falls Township is expected to create 25 new jobs.
The Falls Township Board of Supervisors approved a plan for Airgas to purchase a 8.77-acre site from U.S. Steel and construct an air separation plant. The Supervisors approved a minor subdivision and preliminary and final land development for the proposed facility that will sit on Middle Drive inside the port complex.

Airgas Project Developer Jesse Carter said the proposed air separation plant would create products for medical facilities while leaving no emissions or hazardous waste. The plant would assist with the manufacturing of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon in the region.
“It produces no hazardous or residual waste,” Carter said, noting the plant cleans air, freezes it, and distills it.
Carter explained that separated air would be sent through a pipe rack to storage tanks and await pickup by trucks used for distribution.

No fuels will be stored in bulk at the site and separated air does not pose a large risk, Carter told the Supervisors.
Delaware County-based Airgas is owned by Air Liquide, which also operates a facility off New Ford Mill Road in Falls Township.

The new Airgas facility will now await a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection before work can begin.
In unrelated development news, the Supervisors approved a 1,600-square-foot addition onto the Penske Truck Rental and Leasing repair shop on Newbold Road. The building will not have plumbing and will be used for storage.
The Supervisors also approved Kent’s Tree Service on South Pennsylvania Avenue to construct a pole barn. The building will be in addition to an already standing operations building.
