Ride sharing apps Lyft and Uber will offer free and discounted rides this election day.

In their effort to “drive the vote,” Uber will add a button on their app on election day so users can find their local polling place and book a free ride using a promo code. On the Lyft app, there will be a function to use a promo code for discounted rides and free trips for residents of underserved communities.

Democracy Works and #VoteTogether are partnering with Uber while Lyft is working with Vote.org, TurboVote,ย  Voto Latino, local Urban League affiliates, and the National Federation of the Blind for their effort.

In statements, the two ridesharing companies said they are working to share information on how to register to vote with users and drivers.

A petition recently in Philadelphia called for SEPTA to offer free service on election day to encourage higher voter turnout. KYW Newsradio last week reported the transit agency said they are not planning to offer free transit because many polling locations in the city are within walking distance.
