The Pennsbury School District has been awarded a state grant to improve school safety.
Gov. Tom Wolf’s office and State Rep. John Galloway announced Thursday that the district will receive $19,969 through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Safe Schools Targeted Grant program.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education said the money will be used by the district to establish and implement programs to prevent and reduce violent incidents.
“This funding, along with the new $60 million we will invest through the School Safety and Security Committee, supports the joint efforts of schools, communities and the state to prevent violence and keep children safe,” Wolf said in a statement.
“This funding will help ensure our schools are safe places where learning can take place,” said Galloway. “I’m glad the state was able to award this grant to Pennsbury, and I will continue to support efforts to enhance safety and security in our schools.”

Thursday’s grant to Pennsbury was only a small portion of $8.4 million handed out to districts in the name of school safety. It is separate from an additional $60 million that will be doled out by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency following a statewide school safety report released in summer.
