The owner of St. Mary Medical Center is realigning their operations.
Trinity Health, which operates 93 hospitals across 22 states, announced last week that they have created the Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic regional health system. The new unit will include St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown; Saint Francis Healthcare in Wilmington Delaware; Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Delaware County; Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in the city; and Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia.

St. Mary Medical Center CEO and President James Woodward will lead Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic and continue to lead the Middletown hospital until a new president is named.
The formation of Trinity Health’s new operating unit will leverage the strengths of their current offerings, offer more clinical collaboration, lead to development of a more comprehensive outpatient strategy, and streamline some operational efficiencies.
“Our patients will continue to experience the same quality care they have come to expect at all of the hospitals,” said Woodward. “Separately, we will seek operational efficiencies, so we are better positioned—as a region—to respond to the evolving healthcare industry and related competitive challenges.”

In a press release, the company noted it would remain dedicated to Catholic health care values.
“While we care for a broad array of diverse communities across our region, every member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic shares a deep-rooted mission of serving together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate healing presence,” said Woodward.
