A Philadelphia man was arraigned Friday evening on charges he killed his pregnant girlfriend earlier this week.
Jaleel Lamar Loper, 27, is accused of strangling Anna Angok, 29, of Bristol Township’s Croydon section, Wednesday after she sent him messages that they were breaking up. Angok was pregnant at the time of her death and Loper is believed to be the father, according to investigators. The age of the fetus was not released.

Bristol Township police said they were called to the 600 Building in the Glen Hollow Apartments off Newportville Road around 6 p.m. Wednesday for an unknown problem. A man had reportedly told a dispatcher to “please hurry.” Upon arrival, officers checked the scene and received no response at apartment 613.
A few minutes later, a woman called 9-1-1 to request police back at apartment 613. She relayed that Angok’s foster-father received a call from her phone at 5:51 p.m. In the call, an unknown man said she needed help because she was unconscious on the floor, according to court papers.
An apartment complex maintenance worker arrived shortly before police and opened the door to the unit. Angok was found slumped on the couch and efforts were begun to attempt to revive her, but she was cold to the touch and deceased, police said.

Angok’s 2-year-old daughter was unharmed nearby and seated in a chair, police said. An official told LevittownNow.com the 2-year-old girl’s father was not Loper.
Officers and detectives locked down the apartment and secured evidence, including Angok’s phone with cellular service and one that only operated on WiFi, court papers stated.

On Thursday morning, Loper called the Glen Hollow complex office and asked for a well-being check because his pregnant girlfriend had not talked to him since Wednesday. He said he feared she had suffered a miscarriage, police said.
While investigating the case and Loper, detectives learned he was on state parole and living in a halfway house on Southampton Road in Philadelphia. It was further uncovered that he reported home more than two hours late on Wednesday evening and called out of his job in Bensalem Thursday after obtaining a work pass to leave the halfway house that morning, court papers stated.

A detective noted that Loper left him four voicemails and stated he was worried about Angok on Thursday evening. He further stated in one voicemail that she was “mad at me still.”

During the autopsy Friday morning, it was noted that Angok was pregnant and had signs that she was strangled by a thin cord or string-like object that left three abrasions, court papers said.
The woman who called 9-1-1 was interviewed by police and reportedly said she drove Angok from work around 4 p.m. Wednesday after picking up the 29-year-old’s young daughter. She then dropped Angok and her daughter off at Glen Hollow.

While talking with law enforcement Friday, Loper allegedly admitted to being in the area of the victim’s apartment on Wednesday afternoon, which is around the time the homicide is believed by police to have happened. Further in the conversation, Loper reportedly said he had Angok take a pregnancy test and knew she was expecting. He also admitted that he spotted an ambulance and police at the apartment complex but left when he saw a woman speaking with an officer.
Investigators said Loper’s alibi did not check out, but the man Loper had said he was with told them the 27 year old asked them for a ride to the bus around 6:18 p.m. Wednesday.

A member of the Bucks County Detectives looked at Angok’s one phone and examined a chat conversation between the woman and Loper. It happened between 10 a.m. and 3:32 p.m. Wednesday and involved Angok telling him twice their relationship was over. Loper called her phone twice, accused her of aborting their child, and asked when she was done work. She did not respond, investigators said.
Loper was charged shortly at 6 p.m. Friday with criminal homicide, criminal homicide of an unborn child, and possession of an instrument of crime. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility by District Judge Frank Peranteau without bail due to the homicide charge.

According to court records, Loper was on state parole after being released from prison following the 2013 robbing of a Walmart in Delaware County.
