An SUV and an ambulance collided and closed a busy roadway Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. when an SUV driver reported having a medical emergency and pulled from the Pine Watson Shopping Center into the front of the transport medic unit on Pine Street (Route 413) in Langhorne Borough.

The crash badly damaged both vehicles and the driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital, police Chief John Godzieba said.

Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said the patient in the ambulance was being transported from St. Mary Medical Center to a Philadelphia hospital. They were returned to the Middletown hospital.

The ambulance, which belonged to a private company, did not have lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash.
