Parents and prospective students can learn more about TLC Bucks Arts Charter High School during one of eight information sessions beginning Aug. 21 and continuing through Sept. 22.

The tuition-free school is planned to open in the 2019-2020 school year in a 40,956-square-foot space near the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem Township. The proposed school site, located at 1000 Northbrook Drive in Trevose, is where these free informational meetings will be held. Meetings will be available on select Tuesdays (Aug. 21, Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.), Sundays (Aug. 26, Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 at 2 p.m.) and on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. or 3 p.m.
The arts-focused charter school will offer majors in dance, vocal and instrumental music, theater, literary arts, visual arts and figure skating. Ninth- through 12th-grade students will spend half of their school day working in their artistic major. A dancer, for instance, will have more than 500 hours of professional training each year or more than 2,000 hours over the course of a four-year high school career.
The high school will be open to students from Bucks County and surrounding communities. Students whose school district is within a 10-mile radius of the school are eligible for bussing.

Prospective students can pre-enroll in the school here. Those interested in attending the school must, at a later date, audition in their area of interest in order to complete the enrollment process.
TLC Arts, LLC is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2013 by long-time educator, Dr. Thomas S. Lubben. Following an educational career which included positions as a teacher, superintendent and all educational roles in between, Lubben has spent more than 20 years actively involved in the charter school movement. He opened his first arts-focused charter school, The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts in 2003 in Bethlehem. Through 2010, he served as superintendent of the school, which is now known as Charter Arts.

Since then, Lubben has spearheaded the opening of three other arts-focused charter schools in the Lehigh Valley.
Now, Lubben is setting his sights on bringing a similar school to lower Bucks County.
“Our charter school will offer another educational choice to artistically inclined students,” Lubben said. “TLC Arts sets high benchmarks for success and helps to better prepare our students for a career in the arts.”
