“Ray Hopkins earned this promotion based on his 47 years of loyal and faithful service to Bristol Township and the Department will continue to improve with his leadership,” Bristol Township Manager Bill McCauley said. “Ray started working full-time in Public Works in 1971 after three years as a summer employee while he was in high school.”

Acting Public Works Director Jack Snyder, who had a 30 year career in Upper Moreland in Montgomery County, told McCauley about Hopkins’ leadership and work in the department.

“That day I got smart,” McCauley joked.

“The township was extremely fortunate to find someone with Ray’s background, training and experience,” McCauley said. “I had assumed that he was more interested in retirement than a promotion, but I am glad that he accepted,” he said. McCauley said that it was very rewarding to be able to recognize and promote a longtime township employee to the post.”

Hopkins officially started in his new leadership role on July 9. He will earn $75,000 per year in his new position.

In addition, Andrew McAdams was hired as deputy public works director. He previously worked as an inspector with Gilmore and Associates.

After previous Public Works Director Jason Lawson left in 2016 for Falls Township, Bristol Township hired David F. Capponi at $85,000 per year. He worked as public works director until 2017. Township officials did not comment on what happened to Capponi.
