The Neshaminy School District will be expanding their Pre-K Counts program thanks to a recent grant from the state.

District officials announced Tuesday that a grant totaling just over $1 million will allow the district to grow the program to 120 students enrolled.

Pre-K Counts uses state funds to enable Neshaminy to offer free preschool programs to families that qualify at no cost to the district.

“Income guidelines (based on 2017 Federal tax returns) are generous – for example, a family of four can earn up to $75,300 annually to qualify. This gives working families who might not qualify for other programs, but who still struggle to meet the financial obligations of affording preschool education, a valuable opportunity,” the district said in a press release.

Students will be taught by Bucks County Intermediate Unit teachers and support staff using curriculum Neshaminy has designed to integrate with the elementary school program, officials said.

Classes take place at the Lower Southampton Early Learning Center (formerly Lower Southampton Elementary School) in Lower Southampton, Joseph Ferderbar Elementary School in Lower Southampton, and Albert Schweitzer Elementary School in Middletown. Current open seats remain at the two Lower Southampton schools.

The Pre-K Counts classes meet five days a week and transportation must be provided by the student’s family.
