Firefighters responded to the Oxford Valley Mall for a small blaze Friday morning.
The small flash fire happened when a welder was working in the third-floor stockroom at the J.C. Penney store around 9:30 a.m., Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

The fire was contained and no major damage was reported, McGuire said.
While the mall was not open at the time, a hair studio that was taking care of a few customers was evacuated, the fire marshal said.
The mall and J.C. Penney were able to open regularly following the call, McGuire said.
