Fallen Philadelphia Firefighter’s Procession Travels Through Lower Bucks County

A procession of fire trucks shut down northbound I-95 through Lower Bucks County and brought local firefighters to overpasses.

The motorcade for 34-year Philadelphia Fire Department veteran Lt. Benny Hutchins traveled Wednesday from Deliverance Evangelistic Church in North Philadelphia starting shortly after his funeral ended at noon. Hutchin’s casket and its escort arrived at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Upper Makefield shortly before 2 p.m. for the burial ceremony.

As the procession headed through Bucks County, it was escorted by local, state and city police. The motorcade was made up of fire trucks from Philadelphia and funeral-goers.

In Bucks County, Bensalem Fire Rescue, the Bristol Township Fire Marshal’s Office, Edgely Fire Company, Fairless Hills Fire Company, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Middletown Fire Marshal’s Office, Newtown Emergency Services, Parkland Fire Company, Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad, William Penn Fire Company, and the Upper Makefield Fire Company were among the agencies that lined the I-95 overpasses from Bensalem to Lower Makefield.

Hutchins, a military veteran, was assigned to ladder 30 in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. He died late last month Jefferson Torresdale Hospital following a medical emergency suffered at the Philadelphia Fire Department Academy, according to a statement from the city.
