A break in an underground transmission line belonging to the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority left thousands of customers without service. As of 1:30 p.m., many remained with limited or no water service.

The break was first reported around 11:20 a.m. when water began bubbling from under the pavement at the Woodbourne Road exit to the TD Bank. By 1:15 p.m., water continued to come from the ground as crews worked to shut down service.

Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said service to customers were impacted at the Oxford Valley Mall, Sesame Place, in the neighborhoods from East Lincoln Highway all the way ot Langhorne-Yardley Road and Oxford Valley Road. Service interruptions were also reported in Langhorne Borough and at several area senior facilities, impacting water service and large water-cooled air conditioning units.

County sign boards were called to Middletown to alert residents of the water problem and extra fire equipment had been put on standby, McGuire said.

The river of water flowed down Woodbourne Road onto East Lincoln Highway and also into the parking lot of the bank. McGuire said no water had made its way inside the bank.

Officials were concerned as there was buckling of the pavement and concrete near the water main break. However, a full assessment of the damage could not be completed until after the leak had stopped.
