Work is underway to turn a former mobile home community into Bristol Township’s newest park.

The new Cedar Avenue Park at the site of the former Miller’s Trailer Park at Cedar and Main avenues in Croydon got underway recently. Large bulldozers moved dirt and trees and brush were cleared from the three-acre site.

In an email to residents, the township said last week that the park is expected to be completed by the end of summer.

In 2017, officials described the future use for the site as a “passive recreational park.” They added Cedar Avenue Park will include “attractive landscaping and shade trees, a paved trail, and a welcoming entry wall and walkway at the entranceway to the park.”

The former Miller’s Trailer Park was a blight in the area for years and residents raised concerns about possible contamination at the site in the last decade. In 2017, a newspaper report stated the state carried out tests and did not find toxic materials.

A New Jersey developer demolished the remains of the mobile home park in 2007 and proposed building townhomes. The plans were active through 2014 and later fell through.

Bristol Township purchased the unkempt three-acre lot from a private developer using $663,000 from a federal grant in 2016 with the goal of turning it into a park. The site had become strewn with weeds, brush and various types of waste over the years.
