Starting this Wednesday and continuing for a week, northbound Route 1 will be reduced to one lane near the Route 13 and Route 32 interchange.

PennDOT officials said the lane reduction will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and continue through Wednesday, May 16. Crews have been working in the area of the interchange to “enhance travel and safety.”

The exit to northbound Route 32 in Morrisville will remain open, and Route 13 drivers entering northbound Route 1 at the interchange will continue onto Route 1.

In addition, overnight lane restrictions have been scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. on southbound Route 1 between Morrisville and Route 13 interchanges for milling and paving.

The overall project is aiming to improve Route 1 in Falls, Middletown, Morrisville, and Lower Makefield. A concrete barrier will be placed between Route 1 north and the on-ramp from Route 13 to eliminate the “substandard” weave condition that currently exists when drivers enter Route 1 from Route 13 and then make their way over to the Route 32 exit.

Contractor James D. Morrissey Inc. of Philadelphia is handling the $2.3 million project.

As part of an unrelated project, paving work is also underway on Route 1 northbound between Bensalem and Langhorne Manor.
