A series of rumors about the threat of a school shooting at Neshaminy High School has caused the district and police to react.
In a note to parents, Principal Dr. Rob McGee said that rumors of a school shooting have cropped up throughout the week and have been investigated.

The first rumor started Monday with a student discussion that was revealed to be a poor choice of conversation topics, McGee said.
The principal said the school district and police became aware of a second school shooting rumor. The rumor said a shooting would take place at the Middletown high school Friday. It was determined that the rumor started with freshman and posed no threat.
“Unfortunately, fueled by social media, the rumor re-emerged Wednesday evening and early this morning in the form of calls and emails to NHS and MTPD. In some of the newer reports the ‘School Shooting’ was now to take place today, Thursday,” McGee told parents.

“Please know that both NHS and MTPD take each reported rumor seriously by attempting to determine the origin of the information.”
McGee said rumors of a shooting often come up around April 20, also known as 420. The date is known as an important day in cannabis culture and also marks Hitler’s birthday, the anniversary of the shooting at Columbine High School, and the date of other tragedies.

Police and the district have been working to determine where the rumors started.
Additional police will be at the high school throughout the rest of the week.
McGee asked students and parents to report any rumors to the school and/or police. He asked students to not repeat the rumor to others or post it to social media. He advised parents to keep an eye on their kid’s phones.
