A trail system in Middletown’s Levittown section is a bit nicer due to an Eagle Scout’s project.

Eagle Scout Matthew Tomlin, of Levittown Boy Scout Troop 316, and a group of about 25 volunteers spend 250 hours fixing up the trail system in the greenbelt behind Samuel Everitt Elementary School, which is owned by the Neshaminy School District and used by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.

For his project that will benefit the Levittown community, Tomlin became an Eagle Scout and received recognition by the Middletown Board of Supervisors.

Tomlin told supervisors he grew up going into the wooded area and recognized the trail system needed some work.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Tomlin placed stones in the Mill Creek to make it easier to cross, added trail markers, removed obstructive brush, downed limbs, and widened a portion of the trail that runs close to the waterway. The trail, which is often used by kids on bicycles, now has more room and is safer.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Amy Strouse also thanked Boy Scout Troop 316 for recently helping a Middletown Korean War veteran clear tree limbs from his yard after the recent storms.
