Numerous media reports Wednesday evening indicated that Toys R Us plans to either sell or close all of its 800 stores in America.
The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal reported the big box retailer told some employees it will sell or close its stores months after filing for bankruptcy. The company’s closure will impact as many as 33,000 jobs.

The closures are not likely to occur all at once and are expected to happen over time, a source told the Washington Post.
A Toys R Us spokesperson was not available for comment on the reports or on the future of the store that sits off Lincoln Highway in Middletown.
The Babies R Us brand is also expected to be impacted by company’s problems.

Toys R Us announced Tuesday that it was shuttering its stores in the United Kingdom.
Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the lead up to the holiday shopping season last year due to a large debt load and changing shopping habits.
The Middletown location sits a few yards away from the former location of where The Sports Authority closed in 2016. The closure of The Sports Authority was the last major retail liquidation in the country. The stores location has since been turned into a Burlington Coat Factory.
