A farmers market could be the next attraction to come to Bristol Borough’s wharf.

At Monday night’s council meeting, Joe Rakowski, the owner of Noble Earth on Mill Street, presented a plan to bring the “Historic Bristol Borough Farmers’ Market” to town through spring, summer, and early fall.

While the plan is still in its infancy, Rakowski presented the idea to Council, noting the public support the plan already has garnered.

“We’ve had a lot of public support for this,” Rakowski told Council.

The market would potentially tie in with the trams that Bristol Borough: Raising the Bar wants to bring to town in a greater effort to promote the town.

The proposal comes after Rakowski regularly hosted fresh produce at his store from Love Grows CSA, local farmers from Morrisville. The farmers market would be put on by Noble Earth and Love Grows CSA, Rakowski said.

The market would not offer any prepared foods or other merchandise. The goal is not to compete with the businesses on Mill Street, but draw people to the town for freshly-grown produce. According to Rakowski, the market would be the only one in the area to be immediately accessible from the docks they are situated near.

Plan A for the market is to set up shop at the wharf. If this plan moves forward, no more than 12 vendors would be approved, Rakowski said. Money made from the market would go right back to work promoting the market and the borough as a whole.

“It’s a first-class establishment, and if there is anyone who can pull this off, it is Joe,” said Councilman Greg Pezza during the meeting.

Although there was no decision made on Monday, Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe II directed Rakowski to meet with the borough manager to set up a more concrete plan for the future.
