Cops: Man Angry After Being Kicked Out Started Apartment Building Fire

A Levittown man has been charged with starting an apartment fire that temporarily left several residents displaced.

Gregory Louis Becker V, 20, was arrested Wednesday and interviewed by investigators. Police said he admitted to starting the early morning fire on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Orangewood Apartments.

Becker intentionally set the blaze at the complex on Joseph Place after being upset about kicked out of the apartment he shared with his co-tenant, police said. They added Becker also complained about his items being destroyed.

One apartment was destroyed and several others were damaged by the fire. No residents were hurt.

Shortly after the fire, Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito called in the Philadelphia Fire Department’s accelerant detection K-9 to assist in the investigation.

Becker was charged with four counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of arson and single counts of burglary, risking a catastrophe, and criminal mischief.

On-call District Judge Leonard Brown arraigned Becker Wednesday night and sent him to Bucks County prison after he was unable to post 10 percent of $500,000 bail.
