The message, according to the Neshaminy School District and Middletown police, was reported to Maple Point Middle School staff and an investigation began.

In his snap, the student said he had an AR-15, but he did not make any threats against any individuals, police said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the middle school once they heard about the snap.

Police said they contacted the boy’s mother. She came to the school, spoke with police and viewed her son’s snap.

The boy told officers the message was nothing more than a “joke.”

The student and his locker were searched. No weapons were found, police said.

“Because of the nature of the text message, the student was charged by the police department and will have to appear in court to answer for the text message he sent,” a police statement said.

The school sent a message to parents late Wednesday morning alerted them that a “rumor” regarding student safety was investigated and determined to be unfounded.
