Tech School Challenge Day Makes Peers See From New Perspective

A group of about 125 Bucks County Technical High School students and 30 adults took part in an event to foster understanding and acceptance Thursday.

The technical high school’s Challenge Day had students participate in a number of trust-building exercises, presentations and games. The students talked to one another person-to-person and were given the opportunity to see their peers and themselves from a new perspective.

“It is typical for high school students to remain in their comfort zone and not interact with others they see as different from themselves. Part of Challenge Day is to get the students to accept and understand those that are perceived as different from them – whether that is how they dress, look, or any stereotype,” said Marcella McAdams, a physical education and health teacher who coordinates events for the high school.

Michael Thim, another teacher who helped organize the event, said this was not the first time the technical high school in Bristol Township has hosted a Challenge Day.

“Each year, more students go through the process and it has really helped make our school a better place to learn and work. It is one more reason why Tech is such as great school,” Thim said.

“Challenge Day is filled with laughter, love and smiles. It is a whole day with people who are strangers at first but by the end of the day, they are people you understand more fully. It is an amazing event that everyone should experience,” he explained.

The Challenge Day program was hosted by Christopher Foster and Trish Bruno, who led the event with music and personality.
