Inspire Federal Credit Union will be closing one branch and opening another nearby.

In a letter to members, the credit union announced they sold their building at 2104 Bath Road in Bristol Township and will be moving the recently-closed Pizza Hut at Commerce Circle in Bristol Borough. The credit union will lease their current Bath Road location until their planned move in summer.

Inspire Federal Credit Union President and CEO Jim Merrill said the building was put up for sale after a review of facilities. The majority of the Bath Road building has been empty since the credit union transitioned to a new, larger headquarters in Newtown Township.

“We feel that selling the building allows us to transition to a smaller and more modern building, containing a branch only. Our new building will serve our members more safely, securely and affordably,” Merrill said.

Work on the new credit union branch will begin in March, Merrill said.

The 10,500-square-foot Bath Road building was sold in mid-December 2017 to Grace Land II LLC. The LLC previously filed paperwork with the township with plans to add a detox facility for people “physically addicted to drugs and alcohol,” but the plan is currently stalled and needs to come before planners. A story with more information on that company’s plans for the site will be published on LevittownNow.com later this week.

The credit union, according to Merrill, has no connection to the proposed facility. He said the agreement to sell the building was a business decision.

Inspire Federal Credit Union has more than 14,000 members and is spread between its headquarters in Newtown, a branch on Lincoln Highway in Middletown and the location in Bristol Township. The not-for-profit financial institution has grown in recent years and has evolved from a credit union for school teachers that was founded in 1936.
