While Sam’s Club media representatives were not immediately available to comment, the Levittown-area location in Middletown remained opened to customers as of Thursday afternoon.

Business Insider reported 63 Sam’s Clubs were closing across the country. Some were closed immediately and others will close within weeks.

“After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition,” Sam’s Club said in a tweet.

The Daily Record in northern New Jersey reported the company recently carried out a financial review of stores and alerted staff of the closures during a morning meeting.

The closures came on the same day parent company Walmart announced they were offering bonuses and expanded compensation for employees.
