Fire crews got a quick jump on a residential blaze near the Penndel and Middletown border in the 400 block of Quincy Avenue.
Fire officials explained that some of the responding fire crews were already on the road returning from a previous dispatch when the call came in shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The quick response helped responders to stop the Middletown blaze before it got too out of control.

When firefighters arrived, there were flames showing on the outside of the building. Inside, the floor was burned out, creating a tense situation for firefighters, a fire official said.
According to Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire, the homeowner was not inside at the time of the blaze and a passerby reported the fire.
There were no human injuries reported, but two dogs were taken to a nearby veterinary hospital for treatment.

The cold weather was a factor in dealing with blaze. To handle with the wet streets already beginning to ice over, the public works department was called out to salt the area, McGuire explained.
