Falls Township’s projected $85.5 million 2018 budget will keep taxes at their current level, the same one that the township had in 1992.

Under the proposed budget, the average homeowner will pay 7.22 mills, which equals $216.60 for the average assessed property. The 7.22 millage rate has stayed the same since 2014 and matched the level approved by the Board of Supervisors for 1992., Falls Finance Director Betsy Reukauf said.

In a press release, the township has laid out the following spending:

The budget allocates $2.8 million for full-depth road reconstruction of two roads in the Hedgerow Woods section of Falls Township: Walton Drive (from Lions Drive to Bernard Drive) and Share Drive (from Elbow Lane to Bernard Drive). In-house mill and overlay projects are planned for Biles Lane and Third Street. In addition, $154,000 is budgeted for improvements to the intersection of Levittown and Mill Creek parkways. PennDOT’s Green Light Go program will provide matching grant funding.

Falls is planning $470,000 in new vehicles, computer equipment, firearms, training and supplies for the Falls Township Police Department.

Other 2018 projects include tree trimming and removal of trees damaged by the Emerald Ash Borer at Falls Township Community Park.

The township plans to put $2 million aside next in savings, growing the long-term restricted account to $32 million.

Falls receives free tree and yard waste pickups due to the township hosting Waste Management landfill sites. It also receives millions in host community fees, totaling $14.8 million for 2018.]

The township has seen pension obligations double to $2.8 million between 2012 and 2018. The state will chip in about $600,000 for pensions, Reukauf said.

Reukauf presented a graph during the Board of Supervisors meeting showing Falls has the lowest municipal taxes among neighboring townships. Lower Makefield was after Falls with an average tax bill of $575.30 and Bristol Township was the highest with an average tax bill of $1,036.40.

The police department takes up about 55 percent of the spending in the budget.
