Four people, including a police officer, were being treated by medical professionals as of Tuesday night following an apartment fire.

Firefighters were called to the Woodbourne Apartments on Woodbourne Road in Middletown around 7:05 p.m. for a reported apartment fire. Crews from Levittown Fire Company No. 2 were at their station selling Christmas trees and arrived quickly on scene along with the nearby William Fire Company. Additional fire trucks from around the area quickly followed.
Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said the four people being treated all suffered smoke inhalation and one may have had an additional injury. Medics from the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad were on scene taking at least two people on stretchers.
The fire appeared to have been centered in the area of an entertainment center in an apartment in the J building, but the cause remained under investigation as of 8:45 p.m., McGuire said.

“Right now, it’s undetermined,” he added.
Residents were in the apartment at the time of the fire. The unit was left uninhabitable by the flames, the fire marshal said.

The quick work of firefighters prevented more units being destroyed.
