On Sunday morning, the Middletown Community Foundation put on its third annual five mile run and walk with help from local institutions, including Inspire Federal Credit Union and media sponsor LevittownNow.com.
“Being able to partner with the community foundation helps us to get back to our roots and support the educational system,” explained Brian Phillips, vice president of operations at the credit union and a committee member responsible for organizing the run.

The money raised by the community foundation goes towards providing scholarships for students entering undergraduate school right out of high school. So far, the group has provided $165,750 in scholarships to local students.
According to Bill Cowan, president of the foundation, the group has raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars over about 20 years. The foundation is also looking towards expanding its fundraising to vocational school students attending trade school right out of high school.
“We look forward to many more years of this event at this wonderful venue,” said Paula Kearns, a member of the foundation’s board and a committee member responsible for organizing the run.

The race kicked off with 21 runners, and the walk contained at least as many participants, according to Kearns.
James Huth came in first place and averaged 6 minutes and 58 seconds per mile.

At the conclusion of the race, participants received medals and the top racers were recognized.
