Bristol Borough’s council president is asking Walmart to reconsider its decision to close the Commerce Circle before the end of the year.
By late December, all 197 employees at the Walmart will be lost as the company closes the store for good. A memo with the news was sent to local government officials Thursday afternoon and Walmart confirmed the news in a story broken by LevittownNow.com.

In a letter to Walmart Market Manager Levi Robinson, Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe asked the company to “reconsider the closure because of the economic impact to our residents.” He also said the borough is open to discussing ways to keep the store open.
Aside from the loss of 197 jobs, Bristol Borough Manager Jim Dillon said the closure will impact many shoppers who walk to Walmart.
Walmart officials said Thursday the closure of the Walmart was based on a number of factors, including financial performance and strategic alignment with long-term plans.

In 2014, DiGuiseppe sent another letter to the company when rumors of the store’s closure first sprung up. It was that year that the company considered building a new store in Bristol Township but plans ended up falling through.
The Commerce Circle Walmart opened in 2003 and underwent renovations in October 2016.
