Federal and state politicians who serve Lower Bucks County reacted to Saturday’s violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The elected officials reacted via social media to the violence that stemmed from a gathering of white nationalists and those countering their rally. By the end of the day, one pedestrian was killed in what may have been an act of domestic terrorism and two state troopers died when their helicopter went down. The Charlottesville Daily Progress reported that 35 others were hurt in the day’s events.

Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick:
I am appalled by the violent domestic terrorism attacks in Charlottesville, Virginia, driven by pure hatred and bigotry. These domestic terrorists completely oppose our American ideals of tolerance and diversity. These despicable acts threaten all Americans, regardless of race, creed, or color.
As we mourn the lives lost and pray for those in critical condition, we thank the first responders tasked with restoring order and delivering care. We must stand together as Americans, resolute in the pursuit of justice for all. We shall defy all those who seek to tear apart our nation with hatred and violence.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf:
I join Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe in condemning the hatred and bigotry of white supremacists in #Charolettesville.
Let’s be clear: white nationalists are racists and racism is un-American.
Frances and I are saddened and praying for the peaceful protestors turned victims of terror in #Charolettesville. It is a tragedy.
Violence and racism have no place in America. America will always be a nation built by people of diverse backgrounds united by shared rights and freedoms –and we are stronger for it.
