The family of Harry S. Truman High School graduate is mourning after the 26-year-old man passed away last week following a vehicle crash.

Nick Martini, a Levittown resident, passed away last Wednesday due to serious injuries he sustained during a crash at 4:35 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 along New Falls Road outside the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority and old Verizon buildings. Martini’s 1995 Acura Integra and a 2015 Ford F550 box truck collided head-on.

His family said they wanted to make it clear that Martini was not intoxicated or racing when the crash happened. They said it is their belief is that the 26 year old was simply tired from a long day of work when the tragic crash occurred. They said investigators have told them they have yet to find wrongdoing.

Police said last week that the official cause of the crash remained under investigation awaiting lab results, which is standard during probes into fatal wrecks.

Martini’s parents, Liza Martini and David Spoon, and his brother made the decision last week once doctors broke the news that the 26 year old would not recover from his extensive head injuries to donate his organs to the Gift of Life program.

“Nick was able to donate several vital organs and helped many others. We all hope that in the months and years to come we feel some sense of peace and comfort knowing that parts of Nick will live on in others and help them live full and happy lives,” said Dawn Tyrell Martini, the victim’s aunt.

Martini’s family said they were grateful for the support from the community and his friends who came together last Friday for a candlelight vigil and memorial at the crash site. The family also said they are “forever grateful to the doctors and nursing staff in the ICU at St Mary Medical Center for their loving care and support, not just of Nick but of his parents and brother while they faced tough decisions and unbelievably heartbreaking news.”

“Since Nick was young, he never really discussed his wishes with his parents; but his parents and brother would like to encourage families to look into the Gift of Life organization and to seriously consider being an organ donor,” Martini’s aunt added.

Firefighters from the Edgely, Fairless Hills and Levittown No. 2 fire companies helped free Martini from his mangled car following the crash.

The driver of the box truck suffered a minor injury.

Martini’s family asked that anyone looking to contribute please donate to the Gift of Life Donor Program, 401 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123.
