A local drug addiction recovery center is joining forces with a Philadelphia media personality to help raise overdose awareness on International Overdose Awareness Day.
Steps to Recovery, a Levittown-based addiction treatment facility at 1400 Veterans Highway, will be hosting a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, August 30, which is International Overdose Awareness Day. The 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ceremony will also include a tree planting ceremony and Tony Luke Jr.โs Brown and White Initiative.

The dedication, titled โA Night to Remember,โ will honor those who have lost their lives to addiction and overdoses, a press release from Steps to Recovery said.
The event is open to the public and anyone who lost a loved one to addiction is welcome to bring a photo of them so that they may be honored during the ceremony.
โWe chose to plant a tree and include the community because it represents strength, wisdom and eternal life,โ said Manuel Rivera, the clinical director at Steps to Recovery.

For Luke, the fight is a personal one. Tony Luke Jr., who is part of the family known for their cheesesteaks, lost his son to a heroin overdose earlier this year when he was just 35. Remembering those who were lost and putting a faces and names to those lost helps to make sure those lost arenโt just statistics, but real people, organizers said.
