A Tullytown woman was arrested after allegedly trying to use an electronic shopping cart to steal almost $400 worth of merchandise from the Levittown Walmart.

Tiffany Witherspoon, 31, was at the Levittown shopping center on Friday at about 2:30 a.m. According to police, Witherspoon was operating the electric shopping cart filled with stolen goods away from the store when police arrived.

Police said that Witherspoon was last seen by Wal-Mart employees driving the electronic shopping cart away from the store and towards a cell phone store on the other side of the shopping center.

A Wal-Mart employee who saw Witherspoon drive by him after she attempted to leave through an emergency exit identified Witherspoon to officers, police said.

Officers told Witherspoon that she was under arrest and she argued, saying that she “wasn’t under arrest because she didn’t steal anything,” the probable cause affidavit stated.

The Walmart employee told officers that Witherspoon was witnessed concealing grocery items and clothing before leaving the store.

Witherspoon was charged with misdemeanors involving retail theft, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. She also received a summary charge of public drunkenness.

Witherspoon was held on 10 percent of $75,000 bail.
