
Police from several departments in Lower Bucks County will be taking part in a statewide aggressive-driving mobilization that runs this week through Saturday, August 26.
Officers from Bensalem, Bristol Township, Lower Southampton, Northampton, Upper Southampton and Yardley will be targeting motorists exhibiting aggressive-driving behaviors such as running red lights, speeding and tailgating. Motorists partaking in other unsafe behaviors such as distracted driving, or violating Pennsylvania’s School Bus Stopping Law will also be cited.

In total, 58 municipal police departments and the state police will be taking part in the enforcement in the Philadelphia region.
Officers will use traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies to identify and cite aggressive drivers.
The enforcement is funded through PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project.

In Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, 1,475 crashes and 20 fatalities last year were blamed on aggressive driving.

If you encounter an aggressive driver, PennDOT offers these tips:
- Get out of their way and don’t challenge them;
- Stay relaxed, avoid eye contact and ignore rude gestures; and
- Don’t block the passing lane if you are driving slower than most of the traffic.
