Residents of the Neshaminy School District will now have access to a free preschool program.
The Pre-K Counts program, a grant-funded state operation, offers free quality preschool education to qualifying district children and will begin serving 3 and 4 year olds this fall.

The Neshaminy branch of the program is planning two locations for the upcoming school year, including the Lower Southampton Early Learning Center (formerly Lower Southampton Elementary School) in Feasterville, and Albert Schweitzer Elementary School in Levittown. The program is full day (from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., five days a week) and will be managed by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.
According to representatives from the district, class sizes will be small (17 students), and staffed by a highly-qualified teacher and aide. Those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
The Pre-K Counts program began several years ago as a way to prepare children for kindergarten and help out working families. While there are financial eligibility requirements for the program, Neshaminy reps say they are surprisingly generous. A family of four, for example, can have an income of up to $73,800 and still qualify for the free program.
