Another fresh food option for low-income families is coming to Lower Bucks County this month.
Fresh Connect is a collaboration between agencies in the lower end of the county. The Bucks County Opportunity Council, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and Rolling Harvest Food Rescue are coming together to make fresh produce available for the people who need it the most and can afford it the least.

Starting Friday, April 21 at the Bucks County Community College campus in Bristol Township, volunteers and members from the Bucks County Opportunity Council will be present to help families coming out for fresh fruits and vegetables.
The collaboration represents a mission to “bring fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables to the people who really need them,” said Eileen Albillar, the volunteering and community connections manager at the Bucks County Opportunity Council. The project is in part funded by the United Way of Bucks County and is partnered with Philabundance.
Each week, between 10 and 15 volunteers will be needed at the community college to assist the crews who are running the show.

“It’s a great way for the community to get involved and help to feed the people who really need it,” Albillar said.
The campus of the community college was chosen for a number of reasons. Ease of access to the site and proximity to other services for people who need them are a few of the reasons the location was chosen, Albillar said.

The program is really intended for people who don’t have the means to provide the fresh fruits and vegetables for their families. Eligibility and registration will be done on site as clients come to the location.
Locals who want to volunteer for the effort can do so by finding Fresh Connect’s page atย BCOC.org, or by clicking here.
